Dr Philippe Duneton, Executive Director, Unitaid
Dr Philippe Duneton was instrumental in the 2006 creation of Unitaid, a global health initiative that works with partners to bring about innovations to prevent, diagnose and treat major diseases in low- and middle-income countries, with an emphasis on tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS and its deadly co-infections. Philippe’s long career has focused on HIV/AIDS, infectious and tropical diseases and public health. He was twice advisor to Bernard Kouchner of France’s Ministry of Health, practiced medicine in the Infection Diseases Department of La Pitié Salpétrière hospital in Paris, headed the missions against HIV/AIDS and harm reduction for l’assistance publique, Hôpitaux de Paris. He also led the French regulatory agency for medicines and health products, and chaired the board of the European Medicines Agency.
