Former Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB)
Thomas Östros is the former Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he served on the management committee with a strategic portfolio overseeing financing for energy, health, life sciences, and global development. An economist and former statesman, his career spans over three decades of leadership at the highest levels of international finance and national governance. He has a proven track record of mobilising substantial capital toward the green transition, health innovation, and infrastructure projects aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
He brings robust executive experience from major global financial institutions, having previously served as the Executive Director for the Nordic-Baltic Constituency at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and as the Managing Director of the Swedish Bankers’ Association. Before transitioning to international finance, Thomas spent 17 years as a Member of the Swedish Parliament, holding several key cabinet positions including Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Minister for Education and Science, and Minister for Industry and Trade.
